Why do we love it so much? Multiple reasons: 1) The story is fun 2) the illustrations are great! 3) the rhymes are great 4) it subtly teaches multiple life lessons. A Message from Author Paul Hoffman

Hi, I’m Paul Hoffman. But, when I read Sam and the Seven-Pound Perch to captivated audiences of kids, they like to call me “Papa Paul.”

I’ll let you in on a secret. When I was with several families and elementary-aged kids on a fishing trip in Canada, I was asked to entertain them after dinner. Tall task! I returned to the dinner table with a placemat and a story. My first draft was a hit with the kids. Booyah!

Fast forward thirty years. The placemat survived! After months of searching for the right illustrator who could help me bring this tale to life, I was fortunate enough to partner with illustrator Nick Patton. From my own backyard in Wisconsin.

Seeing his drawings perfectly encapsulate that lake weekend with my children was powerful. And, I wanted to share it with the world.

Sam and the Seven-Pound Perch is a delightful, humorous and inspiring story about determination, family, friendship, creativity and doing the right thing.
